Summer Internship Program
Summer Internship Program (for student)
Wat Buddhanusorn presents a summer internship program for high school students. This is a great opportunity for students to develop real world skills and build their resumes while giving back to the Thai community.
Program Objectives:
The Wat Buddhanusorn internship program strives to develop the professional, leadership, and teamwork skills of the community’s youth by having them actively engaged in the planning, execution, and support of various temple projects. This is an unpaid internship. Students must have completed the first year of high school by the beginning of the internship.
Time Frames:
Total time commitment is 8-10 hours a week, and will begin the end of June.
Program Components:
- Temple improvement projects: Interns will conduct studies, develop plans, propose the plans, and execute those plans. Examples of possible projects include developing a database for school registration, designing a room reservation system, exploring parking lot safety enhancements, designing a volunteer coordination system, and conducting a study on child recreation space usage.
- Volunteering at the temple 2-4 hours a week: Volunteering provides much needed help to the temple, and will expose the interns to the issues and challenges faced by the temple staff and community.
- A one day community service event, which the interns choose: The interns will work together and utilize all the skills they have gained to propose to the board a one-day community service event. If approved, the interns will put on the event near the end of the summer. Examples of possible community service events are: a college information workshop for students and parents, a temple beautification activity such as painting a mural, and teaching seniors how to use a computer or camera.
Application Process:
There are only a limited number of spots available, and interns will be chosen based on their written application and an interview.

Songkran Day Celebration
“Songkran” is considered the Traditional New Year of Thailand. The Temple celebrates this day with many traditional activities and beautiful ceremonies. The day will begin with community members making offerings in the Main Buddha Hall (sanghadana). This is followed by the monks walking on a ceremonial alms round in the central courtyard of the temple. Members of the temple’s classical music and dance school will showcase Thai culture with traditional performances. There will also be the traditional “watering” of Buddha Images, monks, and elders as a way to show respect, express our gratitude and receive their blessings.
